Electricity Thru Mid-August

For the two weeks through August 18, electricity sales in the continental U.S. were down 1.6 percent year-over-year. This virus economy is getting old isn’t it?

Coal plants produced 23.4 percent of our power during the last two weeks, while zero-emission plants produced 31.9 percent. So it’s generally a gas-fired grid right now.

Carbon intensity was 0.92 pounds of carbon dioxide emitted per kilowatt-hour. During the same period last year, it was 0.94 pounds.
